Description
Long Island City IBZ supports a wide range of manufacturing industrial companies, as well as mixed use commercial or civic complexes. Many of these business support the basic function of NYC and employ a large workforce, such as Boyce Technologies.
However, its floodplain today already extends past Borden Ave, and is only projected to rapidly expand to cover the entire LIC IBZby 2080. Stormwater, which runs down impervious surfaces to Dutch Kills, overloads CSO systems and causes environmental hazard-it too is suspected to dramatically increase.
We aim to propose a successful dynamic framework for the development of the Long Island City Industrial business Zone, which address: the activation of existing infrastructure and underutilized spaces, adaptation to climate risks and designing to coexist with water or other environmental partners, and transformation into a resilient city model with an emphasis on sustainable practices.
